• Architect the patient application to deliver intuitive and performant user experiences
• Scope and lead proof-of-concept experiences such as conversational AI, mobile-first web apps, experimental matching flows, and tools that guide patients through their care journey
• Define reusable component patterns, testing strategies, and accessibility practices and integrate closely with the design system
• Partner deeply with product and design to shape zero-to-one patient experiences balancing usability, scalability, and speed
• Push the boundaries of what a web application can do by focusing on performance, responsiveness, and cross-device experience
• Drive the most complex and impactful frontend projects for Headway’s patient audience
• Lead major technical initiatives and mentor senior engineers and technical leaders to raise frontend craft and impact
• Experience working on modern web applications with React or similar frameworks
• Strong understanding of at least one programming language, with depth in JavaScript/TypeScript and comfortability with others
• Experience with libraries & frameworks including FastAPI, React, Remix, Next.js, React Aria (frontend focus)
• Experience defining reusable component patterns, testing strategies, and accessibility practices
• Experience architecting complex systems spanning multiple technical domains or product areas (e.g., large-scale React applications, design system evolution, or performance-critical user flows)
• Experience driving technical vision and strategy at the organization level, including writing/reviewing technical design documents and participating in planning
• Experience establishing frontend standards and best practices across multiple teams
• Experience leading major technical initiatives requiring coordination across product, design, and engineering
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and technical leaders
• Ability to scope and lead proof-of-concept experiences (conversational AI, mobile-first web apps, experimental matching flows)
