Staff Engineer/Tech Lead, Embedded Finance

Description

• Define and drive the embedded finance platform technical roadmap, including scalability, architectural modernization, and technical debt resolution • Lead AI-assisted engineering adoption across Product Engineering teams • Develop AI-augmented workflows, LLM-assisted code review, and agentic automation for repetitive engineering processes • Work with Card Engineering Managers to align platform direction with product delivery and resolve technical dependencies • Provide hands-on technical guidance on complex engineering problems • Identify systemic engineering quality issues and develop plans to address them • Serve as a technical anchor for senior engineers through design reviews, standards, and mentoring • Lead architecture reviews and modernization of embedded finance systems, including service boundaries, data models, API contracts, and event flows • Identify and resolve scalability bottlenecks • Define reusable engineering patterns and standards • Drive platform initiatives from RFC through production delivery and stability • Audit, prioritize, and remediate technical debt alongside product delivery • Define AI-assisted software development standards, tooling, prompt patterns, and SDLC workflows • Track and report AI adoption signals across Product Engineering teams • Set standards for code quality, observability, testability, and reliability across the Card domain • Mentor Staff and Senior engineers and elevate the technical bar across teams

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience • Track record of technical leadership at Staff or Tech Lead level • Deep experience in distributed systems, API platform architecture, or financial infrastructure at scale • Ability to drive large, complex technical initiatives across multiple teams without direct authority • Strong systems thinking, including fault-tolerance, observability, data consistency, and performance at scale • Clear and compelling written and verbal communication; ability to write RFCs, lead design reviews, and present technical direction to engineering and executive audiences • Genuine interest in AI/LLM tooling and software engineering workflows • Hands-on experience with Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar AI-assisted development tools • Experience integrating AI-assisted development tools into engineering team workflows • Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, and AWS • Nice to have: fintech, card issuing, payments, or API platform infrastructure experience • Nice to have: engineering metrics such as DORA, AI-augmented output, and platform reliability • Nice to have: card issuing/embedded finance product models and card network infrastructure such as Visa, Mastercard, or Thredd • Nice to have: technical uplift programs, tech debt reduction, test coverage improvements, or legacy system migrations • Nice to have: New Relic, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, and CI/CD automation familiarity
