Senior Staff Full-stack Engineer

Description

• Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for the domain • Decompose complex problems into practical, operational solutions • Ensure technical design and implementation quality • Serve as an authoritative expert on performance, scalability, and operability • Continue learning and inject advanced technical knowledge into the engineering community • Handle several projects simultaneously and maximize impact • Mentor engineers and strengthen technical expertise across engineering and product communities • Modernize monolithic systems into microservice architectures and event-driven platforms • Collaborate with senior engineering and architecture leaders on long-term platform strategy and API standards • Provide hands-on technical contribution and innovation while elevating peers and junior engineers • Lead cross-divisional projects that promote technological best practices • Design, build, and operate high-volume, low-latency, resilient systems powering domestic and international money movement • Engineer solutions across core network products, simplify global participant integration, and deliver new features • Use automation and AI-native engineering to unlock real-time insights and improve fraud and risk mitigation capabilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field • At least 9 years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, cloud computing, and data architecture • Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering • Preferred: 12+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, web technologies, distributed HPC and ML systems, cloud computing, and data architecture • 12+ years of professional coding experience in languages such as Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala • 10+ years of experience with databases and database management systems • 12+ years of full lifecycle system development experience • 10+ years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies • 12+ years of experience with networking protocols and third-party distributed-system integration • 7+ years of experience mentoring senior engineers and driving professional development • 3+ years of experience leading cross-domain architectural reviews or establishing coding and design standards • Expertise applying agentic AI coding tools to systemic development challenges • Experience using AI-driven tools, frameworks, or modern software development practices • Experience in fintech, specifically payment processing, merchant services, or digital payment architectures • Experience building and shipping enterprise software iteratively, enterprise-scale data migrations, and platform transformations • Experience architecting, testing, and operating real-time distributed data systems and high-volume pipelines • Strong ownership mindset and destination-backwards approach • Ability to partner strategically and challenge Product, Design, Risk, and Enterprise Tech leadership • Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization
