Senior Software Engineer

Description

• Provide technical expertise on the CNMOC Data Dissemination SBIR Information Technology Solutions Project • Develop, modernize, enhance, operate, and maintain services for CNMOC mission-critical systems • Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including scope and work estimation, architecture and design, coding, and unit testing • Design, code, test, debug, and maintain software products • Translate customer needs into user stories and deliver working capabilities at the conclusion of each sprint • Mentor software developers on the product team • Participate in or lead sprint demonstrations • Facilitate implementation of ideas identified during retrospectives • Collaborate with product teams to develop solutions to problems impeding progress • Communicate technical challenges, considered options, and recommended solutions to team leads

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering/Data Science, or related field • 6+ years of relevant experience • Active Secret security clearance • CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to obtain within onboarding window • Strong Python background with Polars, Pandas, and Pydantic • Fluency with JSON/XML formats and supporting libraries • Experience designing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured datasets in operational environments • Mastery of data engineering concepts: velocity, volume, variety, and veracity • Experience with Git/Subversion, test-driven development, and Agile lifecycle tools including Jira, Jenkins, JUnit, and GitLab • Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and database design • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, or Oracle • Practical experience with AWS and container technologies • Familiarity with DevSecOps frameworks • Experience integrating geospatial systems and enterprise data platforms/APIs, such as ESRI stack and ERDDAP • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to self-start and work independently with minimal supervision • Desired: large-scale ingestion, transformation, analytics workflows, data orchestration and automation • Desired: data governance, metadata/lineage, cataloging, and compliance reporting • Desired: Kafka or Kinesis, time-series data stores, and meteorology/oceanography data • Desired: applying AI to data processing and analytics workflows • Desired: ESRI tools and ecosystem • Desired: cybersecurity best practices and DISA STIG checklists • Desired: OpenShift, Kubernetes, Podman, Terraform, CloudFormation, and AWS cost/performance optimization • Desired: IRODS, Spring MVC, Java/Java Servlet, C++, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and TypeScript • Desired: Selenium/Citrus for automated validation • Desired: direct customer support and structured escalation
