Senior Frontend Engineer

Description

• Define technical components for delivering video and audio content at Reddit • Focus on the web media player and the APIs that power it • Build seamless, low-latency playback experiences and interactive tools for creators and users • Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering counterparts • Execute product and business strategy and build novel products and features • Contribute to the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch • Design and implement end-to-end fullstack solutions • Optimize React and TypeScript web UI components for the media player • Develop backend APIs in Go and Python • Review code and design documents and provide feedback on product specifications and mocks • Collaborate with client and platform engineers to improve media performance across Reddit globally • Contribute to developer workflow standards and recommend best practices • Mentor junior engineers and help grow their technical expertise

Requirements

• BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience • 5+ years of hands-on, professional software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages (Go, Python, Ruby, Java, C++) • Strong proficiency in modern web development technologies (JavaScript, React, Next.js, TypeScript) • Experience translating complex UI/UX designs into scalable web applications • Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, and Thrift basics • Ability to design and implement maintainable APIs • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on schedule • Excellent communication skills • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams in a fully remote environment • Ability to discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences • Familiarity with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), MPEG-DASH, MP4, and other streaming protocols • Familiarity with video compression standards (H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9, AV1) • Familiarity with background data fetching
